- Mousoúros, Márkos ; scholar and philologist; Hellenist and Latinist; one of the pioneers of Humanism; professor of Greek at Padua (from 1503 to 1509), then in Venice, where he collaborated with Aldus Manutius on philological editions of the great texts of Greek and Latin antiquity; Summoned to Rome in 1516 to assist Janus Lascaris (whose pupil he had been in Florence) in organising the Greek College, he was appointed Archbishop of Malvoisia (Monemvasia, in the Peloponnese).
