- Déjeux, Jean (1921-1993); born in Albi (Tarn) 5 November 1921; priest of the confederation of Pères Blancs (Missionnaires d'Afrique); during the 1939-1945 war, he participated in the campaigns of Italy and France as a sub-officer (head of a machine-gun group with the 1er bataillon du 3ème régiment de Tirailleurs algériens; he was wounded twice and received the Médaille militaire and the Croix de guerre; studied philosophy and theology with the Frères Blancs in Thibor and Carthage, Tunisia, 1945-1952, with a noviciate at Maison-Carrée, Algiers, in 1947-1948; studied Arabic language and Islamology at the Institut pontifical d'Etudes arabes at La Manouba, Tunisia, 1952-1955; participated in a research group on the sociological and psychoanalytic approach to North African cultural works, under the direction of Albert Memmi, Ecole pratique des Hautes Etudes de la Sorbonne, 1956-1966; defended his Doctorat d'Université in literature of French expression (Maghrebi literature) at the Université de Strasbourg II on 18 January 1979; involved with several journals: Se Comprendre (1956-1966), Confluent (1962-1965), Présence francophone (Sherbrooke, Canada), member of its consultation committee until its cessation in 1982; Oeuvres et critiques, série "Ecriture française hors de France"; and the editorial council of Francofonia (Université de Bologne); participated in conferences internationally; from 1985 he was a lecturer at the Institut national des Langues et Civilisations orientales (INALCO) on "L'évolution culturelle et sociale du Maghreb contemporain depuis les indépendances"; died 17 October 1993 in Paris ( (FranceArchives website, Fonds Jean Déjeux, viewed July 11, 2025) )
