Peyser Dead; former editor and author of books on music was 74; Ethel Rose Peyser, a writer on music, died here on Tuesday, September 12, 1961 after a long illness, Miss Peyser, who was born here, attended Barnard and Vassar Colleges; she received a Bachelor of Science degree from Columbia University in 1908; from 1912 to 1914 she was on the editorial staff of The New York Tribune; she has also been with The New York Evening Mail, Good Housekeeping, House and Garden, and Everland Magazines; Miss Peyser was the author of How to Enjoy Music, The Book of Culture, and The House That Music Built; together with the last Marion Bauer, she published several books of musical history, including How Music Grew, How Opera Grew, and Music Through the Ages)
