- Giorgio Valla (born 1447 in Piacenza, died on January 23rd, 1500 in Venice) was an Italian humanist, beginning in the late 1460s, Valla alternated between his activities as a translator from Latin and Greek classics and as a teacher of the two languages.He is active as a teacher in Pavia from 1466 until 1485, with some diversions to Milan and Genoa. After 1485 he moved to Venice, his stay in Venice also enabled Valla to intensify his scientific and philological relations with the most prominent intellectuals in European society and to have fruitful social relations with powerful Venetians, such as the Loredans and the Mocenigos, he remained in Venice until his death ( (Italian Wikipedia, viewed June 12th, 2024) )
