- Godefridus Cornelisz. Udemans (born Bergen op Zoom, 1581 or 1582, died in Zierikzee, January 20, 1649) was a Dutch Reformed minister. (...) Godefridus studied theology in Leiden and became a pastor in Haamstede in 1599 at a very young age (17 or 18 years old) on the island of Schouwen in Zeeland. In 1602, he was called to serve in Zierikzee, the largest town on the island, but due to opposition from the municipality of Haamstede, it took until 1604 before he could actually become a minister in that town. He remained there until his death in 1649. (...) Together with Willem Teellinck, he was one of the founders of the Further Reformation movement [Nadere Reformatie], which sought to give church life in the Republic a Puritan character. (...)
