A study based on Interviews with members of five Israeli Jewish communities (two kibbutzim and three moshavim) in the Yamit region of Sinai (then part of Israel) who were forced to evacuate the region as part of a political agreement with Egypt. The study was carried out in order to determine the interviewees' perceptions of and responses to the critical event and to analyze their choices for future resettlement. 27 families and 19 individuals were interviewed. Five basic responses were identified: confusion and despair, accusation, denial of events or consequences, demand for compensation, and a pragmatic search for alternatives.
