Examines everyday antisemitism in Germany between 1920-33 through its manifestations in the internal tourism business. Jews constituted an essential part of the tourist trade that filled spas and other tourist facilities in Germany in the summers. Many of them encountered antisemitism in these vacation spots. In some cases, Jewish tourists were abused by antisemitic residents and vacationers in others, it was the hotel owners who did not want to accommodate Jews. The Centralverein gathered information on antisemitic incidents in hotels, pensions, restaurants, etc., and compiled lists of antisemitic tourist facilities in Germany. Analysis of the cases detected by the CV and other Jewish organizations shows how ill-defined was the line between antisemitic and non-antisemitic hotel owners: e.g. many of them, although not antisemitic, opted to reject Jews as clients in order to attract antisemitic and pro-Nazi clientele who were a majority in some areas. Shows that, in the Weimar period, antisemitism became an accepted attitude, part of mainstream social life.
