Describes the opposition of the Danish Lutheran Church to Nazi plans to deport the Danish Jews in October 1943 a pastoral letter to this effect was read from all the pulpits on October 3rd. It was followed by a proclamation of the Danish resistance calling on Danes to cease all cooperation with the Germans. The Danes succeeded in saving most of the Jews. Munk, pastor of the rural community Hørbylunde and a writer, had condemned Nazi racism in a drama - "Han sidder ved Smeltediglen" ("He Sits at the Melting Pot") (1938) - and in newspaper columns and sermons, all stressing that Jesus was a Jew. In a sermon preached at a protest service in the Copenhagen cathedral on 5 December 1943, he affirmed the duty of the Church to oppose persecution. A month later the SS arrested and murdered him.
