The topic of the Romanian Holocaust in the areas of Bessarabia, Northern Bukovina, and Transnistria has not found a place in the teaching programs of public schools in the Moldova. Before 2001, the pro-Romanian government of the Republic was against teaching the Holocaust in schools, fearing that it might impede the formation of Romanian identity among Moldovan youth. After 2001, the communist government introduced teaching the Holocaust with the aim of creating a wedge of distrust between Moldovans and Romanians. Most of the Moldovan teachers disregard this decision.
