Lev Pulver (1883 Verkhnedneprovsk - 1970 Moscow) was a famous Soviet-Jewish musician and composer. He came from a family of renowned klezmorim (Jewish folk musicians), and studied violin from early childhood with his father. From age ten he performed at Jewish weddings, and in 1906 he began studying in the St. Petersburg conservatory. He graduated with a silver medal in 1908. Until 1923 L. Pulver was a violinist in the opera orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, and performed in numerous concerts. Then he was appointed as musical director of the Moscow Jewish State Theatre (the GOSET), for which he wrote music based on Jewish traditions. The private collection of Lev Pulver includes his musical scores for various plays in the Moscow Jewish State Theatre, scripts of the plays, his arrangements of Yiddish folk songs, drafts of musical notations and music programs of the Moscow GOSET --
