Freidenberg Samuil Markovich (09/2/1906, Nikolaev - 11/27/1984, Sverdlovsk, presently Yekaterinburg), Zionist, economist. He was arrested in Moscow on March 17, 1926 for Zionist activities and exiled to Kazakhstan where he studied the history and economics of Kazakhstan. in 1927 he married the exiled Zionist Klara (Keyla) Krolik (10/1/1906, Borisov - 06/25/1979, Sverdlovsk). While living in Semipalatinsk, he was re-arrested on November 25, 1931, and released on February 8, 1932 for lack of evidence of a crime. From 1934, he lived with his wife and two children (Galina, born 1930 and Anatoly, born 1933) in Kuibyshev, worked as an economist at a distillery. He was re-arrested on June 27, 1937 on false charges and sentenced to 10 years in prison in Taishet. On October 5, 1939 he was released from prison, the criminal case was dropped due to lack of proof. In the fall of 1941 he was drafted into the Red Army, in 1942 he was commissioned and sent to Kamensk-Uralsky to an aviation plant as the head of the planning department. After the war, the family moved to Sverdlovsk (Ekaterinburg), where Freidenberg held one of the leading positions in the Economic Planning Department of the Middle Ural Economic Council. His daughter Galina Tsukerman, grandchildren and great-grandchildren live in Israel.
