Dr. Akiva Baruch (Arthur) Posner (1890 Samter (Szamotuly), Poznan - 1962 Jerusalem), was a rabbi, scholar, librarian, and bibliographer. In 1919 he received his ordination to teach at the Berlin Rabbinical Seminary and in 1923 he received his doctorate from the University of Tübingen. Posner taught in Mainz, Halle, and Vienna, and served as a rabbi in Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein, from 1924 to 1934. He was an outspoken and courageous critic of Nazism. After being forced to leave Germany, he finally emigrated to Belgium in June 1933, and on to Erez Yisrael/ Mandatory Palestine in 1934 where he worked as a librarian --

The collection contains papers from Posner's private archive, such as some personal documents, correspondence and records that provide information about his time as a community rabbi in Kiel. Furthermore, there are numerous writings and essays by Posner in the collection, as well as correspondence about his book publications and other papers from the field of his scholarly work. The Posner Collection also contains the estate of Rabbi Aron Heppner (1865-1938), which includes his correspondence from 1877 to 1937. Photographs and German-Jewish magazines from the 1920s and 1930s (Posener Heimatblätter and various children's newspapers) are also included in the estate. (The collection was first processed by Joel Raba.);As early as 1914, Posner began to publish various articles in German-Jewish magazines as well as in other countries. He was particularly interested in the history of the German communities and the Poznan district. The extensive material that he has compiled under this aspect makes up the majority of the estate today. Mostly preserved in typescripts in German, these articles contain information on the history of the community and its members as well as on the fate of individual members during the Nazi era and their descendants. Posner wrote a total of more than 35 such community histories, some of which have appeared in both Hebrew and English: Czarnikau 1957, Gnesen 1958 and Rawitsch 1962.

Posner taught in Mainz, Halle, and Vienna, and he served as rabbi in Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein, from 1924 to 1934. He was an outspoken and courageous critic of Nazism. After being forced to leave Germany, he finally emigrated to Belgium in June 1933, and on to Erez Yisrael/ Mandatory Palestine in 1934 where he worked as a librarian, first at the E.L. Prinz Library of the Mizrachi Teachers' Seminary (until 1954), and then at the central rabbinical library at Heikhal Shelomo in Jerusalem. Posner was married to Rosi Rachel Anni Posner (1900–1982), née Würzburg, and the couple had three children. Posner died on May 6, 1962.
