lds57 Joshua Podro (Podrushnik) (1899? Russia - ? England), scholar, journalist. There is little biographical information on Podro. The following facts are mainly drawn from the documents in the collection itself: Joshua Podro was born Joshua Podrushnik in Russia. After serving in the First World War and working as a journalist in New York he emigrated to England where he ran a press-cuttings agency. In 1936 he was elected one of the secretaries of the British section of the World Jewish Congress and in 1937 was a member of the Zionist Organisation Executive at the Twentieth Zionist Congress in Zurich. Joshua Podro was a distinguished scholar of Hebrew and Aramaic. He also co-authored with Robert Graves "Jesus in Rome: a historical conjecture" (1957). After his death, his large library of Judaica was donated to Leo Baeck College.
Joshua Podro apparently had 3 children: David, Sheila and Michael. David served in the British Royal Air Force and was injured during WW II. David and Michael were involved in music.5
lds79 Podro's papers were deposited at the CAHJP in 1962.
