Dr. Gustav Feldmann (1872 Kriegshaber/Bavaria, Germany - 1947 Jerusalem), general practitioner, neurologist, and chairman of the Württemberg State Committee of the Centralverein (Central Association of German Citizens of Jewish Faith) was one of the most committed supporters of professional Jewish nursing in Germany. From 1891 to 1896 Feldmann studied medicine at the universities of Munich and Freiburg i.Br. In 1900, he married Lilly Mayer (1877-1967) and they had three children Otto (1900), Hanna (1904), and Lise (1912) --

The collection provides information on the professional and political life of Dr. Gustav Feldmann. Among the items in this collection are correspondence with the institutions and organizations in which he was active including the Centralverein (CV), Jüdisches Schwesternheim Stuttgart, Reichsbund jüdischer Frontsoldaten, Beratungsstelle für jüdische Ärzte Württemberg, Bund jüdischer Ärzte Württembergs, etc. The collection also contains manuscripts, articles, clippings, protocols, circulars, and printed matters.

lds57 Feldmann was the second child to merchant Bernhard Feldmann and Johanna who ran a white haberdashery shop in Augsburg. During his school days, the family first moved to Bamberg and then to Hof. From 1891 to 1896 Feldmann studied medicine at the universities of Munich and Freiburg i.Br.
he then worked as an assistant doctor in the Jewish hospitals in Berlin and Hamburg until he settled in Stuttgart in 1899 as a general practitioner and surgeon. In 1900, he married Lilly Mayer (1877-1967) and they had three children Otto (1900), Hanna (1904), and Lise (1912).
As a busy doctor, Gustav Feldmann campaigned on behalf of Jewish, charitable and nursing matters for more than 30 years. Among other things, temporary president of the Stuttgart Bnei Brith Lodge
Chairman of the committee of the Stuttgart Lodge for the training of Jewish nurses
Head of the Jewish Sisters' Home in Stuttgart (Jüdisches Schwesternheim Stuttgart)
Chairman of the Württemberg State Committee of the Centralverein (Central Association of German Citizens of Jewish Faith)
Chairman of the "Welfare Committee of Jewish Emergency Aid in Württemberg"
Chairman of the "Advice Center for Jewish Doctors in Württemberg"
Member of the select committee of the "Jüdisches Lehrhaus" in Stuttgart.
His son Dr. Otto Feldmann emigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1933, and Gustav's sister Natalie in 1934. Gustav and Lilly Feldmann finally followed in 1935. Gustav Feldmann died on September 29, 1947 at the age of 74 in Jerusalem.
