رقم النظام At Tuesday 8 March's Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee he pointed towards two contradictory conclusions. On the one hand he spoke of a general desire to reduce points of friction between lsraelis and Palestinians. He called Hebron "an unnecessary ticking bomb" - indicating support for an evacuation of the Jewish settlers. Despite the fact that there are now more than 1,000 soldiers deployed in Hebron to protect a few hundred settlers, Rabin spoke of his fears that Palestinian revenge attacks would be difficult to stop. On the other hand, Rabin also spoke of safeguarding the agreements he has already reached with the PLO and not reopening them or taking on additional commitments that Israel has so far managed to avoid. For the time being the reinforced presence of IDF troops in Hebron and Kiryat Arba looks set to continue for the foreseeable future. Leaders of the Kiryat Arba settlers have made clear their intentions to fight in every wav they can any attempt to move them from their current location.
