Dr. Marian Gilbert (Marian Goldsztajn) was born in Radom, Poland, in 1908. Due to his father's connections he managed to get into the Polish army's medical school, and later went on to medical school in Montpelier, France. In 1940 he managed to escape from France to Spain and from there he went on to England. In 1942 Goldsztajn-Gilbert was accepted as a student in Edinburgh University's Polish Medical School. After graduating he moved to London, where he had a successful medical career for 45 years. In 1990 Dr. Gilbert decided to leave his entire estate to The Medical School of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Dr. Marian Gilbert died in London, in 1993. After his death his personal papers were permanently deposited in the Archives Department of the Jewish National and University Library by the Hebrew University authorities. |
