Inset: "Plan von Jerusalem". "Tab 69". First edition of probably the finest work ever produced for teaching deaf-mutes, and one of the first works at all in deaf-and dumb-education. Franz Czech was the leading professor at one of the first deaf-institutions, the "Taubstummen-Institut" in Vienna, and the work aimed at providing the teachers with tools for giving the deaf and dump persons a language. Franz Herrmann Czech (1788-1847) was an esteemed professor at the K.K. Taubstummen Institute and K.K. Academie der Bildenden Kunste in Vienna, Austria. The plates are engraved by L. Rieder.
