Photograph is printed in a book with a description beneath in French and English printed description: "La loi du talion est le premier article du code du Bédouin, et le mot brigandage n'a pas un mauvais sens dans son vocabulaire, mais il se fait un devoir d'escorter et de protéger le voyageur, son hôte, qui vient sous sa tente partager avec lui le pain et le sel. Il a horreur de toute civilisation, méprise le fellah syrien qui travaille la terre, et se glorifie de son nom de bédaouy, 'habitant du désert'. Il aime le chant, la poésie et les récits. S'il meurt dans un combat, on dit: 'il est mort ' s'il meurt de maladie, on dit: 'il a crevé!"
