Photograph is printed in a book with a description beneath printed description: "(Leviticus, ix.)-- This picture is placed in connection with the ninth chapter of Leviticus because of its remote connection with Moses. Old Cairo is between New Cairo amd Memphis, and Moses was brought up at Memphis and educated at Heliopolis. In going from Heliopolis to Memphis he would pass through Old Cairo. This church stands in the middle of the Roman Fortress of Babylon in Egypt. There is a crypt in the church twenty feet by fifteen, in which it is said that the Virgin and her Son spent a part of their time during their sojourn in Egypt to avoid the wrath of Herod. The general shape of the church is nearly oblong. The wooden pulpit inside is of rosewood, inlaid with designs in ebony set with ivory edgings. There are many specimens of very beautiful workmanship inside. There are very handsome carvings representing St. Demetrius, Mar George, Abu-sephen, the nativity and the Last Supper."
