Der Holocaust vor Gericht

After tracing Irving's career as a Holocaust denier and Deborah Lipstadt's as the Holocaust deniers' professional nemesis, chronicles Irving's libel suit against Lipstadt and her British publisher, Penguin, as reported by Menasse in the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung." Irving asserted that persecution of the Jews was initiated by Goebbels behind Hitler's back, and that typhus, not gas, caused mass death in the concentration camps. The defense exposed Irving's falsification of the sources, and accused him of association with neo-Nazis and of antisemitism. also describes a tour of Auschwitz by a group of Viennese architecture students, led by Robert Jan van Pelt, the defense's expert witness on the structure and functioning of the gas chambers. Concludes that the trial raised public awareness of the Holocaust and disproved the allegations of Holocaust deniers once and for all, but did not put an end to them.
