The Jews of the Channel Islands and the rule of law, 1940-1945

Shows how local British authorities on the Channel Islands (Jersey, Guernsey, and Sark) collaborated with German occupation forces during World War II. Due to antisemitism and legalism, they subjected local Jews to discrimination, dispossession, and deportation. Although the total number of Jewish victims may have been less than 20 (with only a few killed), the case exemplifies how the Nazis extended their antisemitic policy to all the territories they conquered. Channel Islands residents have been slow to deal with this aspect of their past and the issues involved, including blind acceptance of the law regardless of its immorality.
