Discusses the situation of the Jews in the USSR and the Soviet block after the death of Stalin. Pt. 1 (pp. 11-98), "Les Juifs et l'antisémitisme en U.R.S.S. et dans les démocraties populaires", deals with Soviet anti-Zionism, the Slansky trial, Polish antisemitism, the causes of popular antisemitism, and the Jews of Hungary and the rebellion of 1956. Argues that the USSR's oscillating relationship with Israel reflects the ideological difficulty it has in resolving the "Jewish question" domestically. Communist ideology views the Jews as an anachronistic form of human alienation, which socialism will eradicate. Judaism is destined to disappear together with antisemitism, with the introduction of socialism. In the persistent Stalinist view, there is no Jewish nation and Judaism is only a religion. Pt. 2 (pp. 99-250), "Documents, prises de position et témoignages", includes documents and statements presenting the Soviet view of the "Jewish question", Israel, and the Jewish religion, as well as testimonies on antisemitism in Poland and the USSR.
