Carnets (1899-1907)

Presents the original version of Dreyfus' memoirs which chronicle the period from the second indictment until the official pardon. Justifies the publication of the final two chapters, relating to dissent within the Dreyfusard camp, which were deleted in all previous versions. Believes that the five notebooks which comprise the unexpurgated version of Dreyfus' "Cinq années de ma vie" could enlighten the public about the reasons for the inevitable split between those who viewed Dreyfus as a person vs. those for whom he was a symbol of the struggle for justice in France. Pp. 27-285 contain the unabridged text by Dreyfus. Pp. 287-438 include the editor's explanatory notes.
