Chronicles the history of the Jewish presence in Riga from 1560 - despite rigorous limitations on the number of Jews, the length of their stay, and their lodging (only in a special hostel outside the city walls), as well as periodic expulsions, the longest by the Empress Elizabeth in 1742; this was cancelled in 1764 by Catherine II. Jews always managed to evade the restrictions, which were officially mitigated only with the law of 1835.
