A Inquisição em Portugal

A compilation of 205 letters by the Spanish Kings Felipe I, Felipe II, and Felipe III to the highest Inquisition authorities in Portugal during the Spanish occupation (1580-1640). Almost one third of the documents, conserved in the national archives of Torre do Tombo, relate to fiscal matters, that is monies and properties confiscated by the Inquisition. Other documents relate to the status and persecution of Conversos, the activity of the Inquisition in Goa and the possible introduction of the Inquisition in Brazil. Pp. 172-180 give details concerning the auto-da-fé in Évora, 1619, in the presence of King Felipe II.
