Galeries Lafayette, Buchenwald, Galeries Lafayette--

Memoirs of Max Heilbronn, son-in-law of the founder of the Galeries Lafayette department store in Paris, who worked together with his father-in-law for development of the enterprise. In 1940, because of the Aryanization of French enterprises, the Galeries Lafayette's shares were fictively sold. Describes his fate and that of his wife and daughter during the Second World War. They converted to Christianity in 1941, and were assisted by the Catholic Church in hiding in the south of France. Deals, as well, with his attempts to engage in resistance activity in the Lyon region and with his internment in Buchenwald.
