Conditions in Austria after the Nazi conquest for the rescue of children through countries of the West; activities as Secretary of He-Halutz in Vienna; organization; contacts with Jewish institutions in Germany, Palestine and countries of the West; competition between the Zionist movments; "Kinder Aliyah"; problems of contact with Palestine. Grew up and studied in Vienna. Secretary of Hehalutz. Thousands of Jews joining movement in 1938 on Nazi occupation of Austria. Question of who is entitled to small amount of certificates. Hehalutz and Youth Aliya giving priority to pioneers who were given agricultural training and zionist education and to youths belonging to youth movements, since absorption locations in Israel were kibbutzim and agricultural settlements. Others thought that there should be no such considerations where rescue is concerned and feared that would icrease possibility of preference of relatives and acquaintances. Minister Moshe Shapira sent from Eretz-Israel to help solve that problem. In Austria, unlike Germany, Nazi laws implemented much faster and quick rescue solutions needed. Revisionists organizing illegal immigration and accepting everyone who was willing to pay for it. Activites of Vienna Jewish community headed by Mrs. Schwartz who organized relocation of youths to the west. Leaving Austria in 1939. Replaced by Ehud Avriel who worked until 1940.
