Photographs are printed in a book with a printed description beneath in French printed description: "Un édicule d'architecture connue situé un peu en dehors de la ville et flanqué de hangars aux proportions modestes, c'est la gare de Jaffa, la tête de ligne. De là part le rail qui file en serpentant sur une longueur de 84 kilomètres jusqu'à Jerusalem, but universel des pèlerinages. C'est une Compagnie française qui s'est chargée des travaux dont l'inauguration eut lieu le 26 septembre 1892. Deux trains partent tous les jours de Jaffa. 'Les voyageurs pour Ramleh, Artouf (le tombeau de Samson), Jérusalem, en voiture!' On entend cet appel sur le rivage de Jaffa, et le train chauffe pour Jérusalem, tandis que notre mémoire evoque le puissant vainqueur des Philistins et toute la série des grands souvenirs. Trop vite à notre gré, la locomotive nous emporte et nous ravit aux tableaux champêtres: c'est l'impitoyable civilisation qui fait irruption dans ces solitudes en supprimant les distances."
