Sidney Smith, reassures Courtnay Boyle that he'll do everything in his power to procure his and three other Royal Navy men's release; Passing on to General Menou his representation and recalling his (Smith's) formal representation to the Turkish government "to prevent them using any severity..to those of the French army who fall into their hands";;He also makes mention of exchange of hostages being considered (M. Beaudot - Mustapha Pasha) ;;[Capt. Courtnay Boyle's ship the Cormorant was wrecked off Damietta due to faulty navigational charts. Contrary to the usages of war, Captain Boyle, was kept in close confinement for nearly three months, by the French army].
