A history of the publication and dissemination of the "Protocols", a forgery describing a Jewish world conspiracy, which first appeared in Russia in 1897 and was published there in 1905. Originating with Aleksei Sukhotin, who claimed that the manuscript was taken from the home of a Parisian Jew, it was given to government officials and used as propaganda to support Russian antisemitic policies. Although the "Protocols" was uncovered as a forgery in 1921, unlike other forgeries this work is still being published throughout the world because of a deep-seated tradition of antisemitism among many nations. Discusses trials concerning the "authenticity" and publication of the "Protocols" in various countries, focusing on the first verdict in the trial in Bern, Switzerland, in 1935. The "Protocols" was condemned there as a work which incites the public to violence. However, in an appeal in 1937, the ruling was overturned; the "Protocols" was judged to be harmless and its publication was allowed. Discusses the influence and spread of the "Protocols" in many countries - e.g. Japan, the U.S., South Africa, Russia, and the Islamic countries.
