Ида Яковлевна Нудель (27.04.1931, Novorossiisk - 14.09.2021, Rehovot), an activist on behalf of the Jewish movement for free exit to Israel, was known as the "Guardian Angel" for her efforts to help Prisoners of Zion in the Soviet Union. Following her arrest and trial on 21.06.1978, Ida was exiled for four years to the Siberian village of Krivosheino (Tomsk Region). After her release from exile on 1.04.1982, she settled in the city of Bender (Moldavian SSR).In 1987, after 17 years of "refusal", she obtained permission to leave the USSR and arrived in Israel on 15.10.1987 aboard the private plane of the American millionaire Armand Hammer. In 1990, she published her autobiography "Hand in the Darkness" in English about life in the USSR. It has been translated into many languages although the original text in Russian has not yet been published. With funds from the publication, she bought a house in Karmei Yosef, where her sister Lena lived with her family, later moving to Rehovot. Unlike other well-known "Prisoners of Zion," Ida did not become involved in politics, but turned her efforts to helping children, mostly from single-parent families of immigrants from the Former Soviet Union. With the financial assistance of the Israel Endowment Fund (New York) and Christian charities from Denmark and Norway, she established in 1994 the "Mother to Mother" Israeli Non Profit Organization, through which she opened learning centers for children and teenagers in peripheral cities: Afula, Ofakim, Sderot, Netivot, Beersheva, Arad, Ashkelon and others --
