S. Neumann, probably "Sanitätsrat" Dr. Salomon Neumann M.D. (Pyritz/Pommern 1819 - 1908 Berlin-Charlottenburg) who is considered a pioneer of social medical statistics. Neumann settled in Berlin in 1845 as a doctor and obstetrician. Along with Abraham Geiger and Ludwig Philippson, he was one of the founding members of the "Hochschule für die Wissenschaft des Judentums". Democratically minded, he soon became involved in the Prussian medical reform movement. Between 1859 and 1905 Neumann was a member of the Berlin city council.
