Collection of photos of Elijah (Elliott) Dov Eichler Elliot Eichler, son of Isidore and Ethel Eichler, was born January 12, 1925 in Brooklyn, N.Y. His parents were born in the USA, but the family originated in Austro?Hungarian Empire. He married Florence Perlo, daughter of Hyman and Lillian Perlo ( December 24, 1928? July 1993), whom he met at a Young Israel function in the synagogue. Florence and Elliot Eichler made their home in Monsey, New York (a modern orthodox community) where they founded the local Jewish Day School. They were ardent Zionists instilling in their three children a love for Israel. Two of their three children made Aliyah. They have 9 grandchildren and, to date, 8 great?grandchildren. Of their 20 off?springs, 15 are currently living in Israel. In 1936, Elliot, age 11, went on a trip "around the world" with his parents and older sister, which included a visit to 'Palestine'. His second visit, of over 100 trips to Israel, was in 1950. The pictures in this album document this visit. He visited immigrant camps, the city of Haifa, Zefat and Tel?Aviv as well as photographing the first military parade that was held in Jerusalem on 23/4/1950. Elliot was an amateur photographer. He photographed family gatherings and his travels, including his many trips to Israel. He set up a dark room in his house and developed much of his film himself for many years. One of his first cameras was a Roliflex which he used to photograph the pictures in this album. In December 2013 Elliot decided to celebrate the 'beginning of his 90th year' in a family gathering in Kibbutz Ein?Gedi. All his descendents gathered for the weekend to celebrate. This was his last visit to Israel. He passed away in Novemeber 2014.
