	שיר הבוקרים נכתב בשנת 1952 לאחר הקמת קיבוץ שדה בוקר בנגב. הרעיון היה שאפשר לגדל עדרי צאן ובקר כדוגמת המערב הפרוע הצית את הדמיון והצמיח באותה תקופה שירי בוקרים רבים. חלק מהמלחינים והמעבדים הושפעו מהמוסיקה של המערבונים שהוצגו אז בבתי הקולנוע. השיר תורגם מאוחר יותר ליידיש בשם "קאויבוי ליד".
