In 1812, following the French invasion to Russia, temporary authorities of the Napoleonic administration took care of order and security in the occupied territories, organized the supply of food and medicine to the French army, and recruited people to replenish the French army. This collection shows the condition of the Vilnius region during the Napoleon Occupation and includes considerable data on Jewish residents in the Vilnius region, their profession, age, property, and social status. There are statistical documents and French inspection officers’ notes about the Jewish population. The collection contains comments of these officers about the physical condition of the residents, lists of Jewish residents and craftsmen, and information on the quantity and type of buildings belonging to Jews.
