כתב-שליחות מאת הקהילה הספרדית בירושלים, לשליח ר' רפאל אברהם אריה. הכותבים מתלוננים על עלילות על יהודי ירושלים, על רקע מסעו של נאפוליאון למצרים. חותמים רבני ירושלים: יום טוב אלגאזי, יוסף מיוחס, יצחק קובו, יהודה בורלא, מרדכי הלוי, אברהם אזולאי, משה אהרן הלוי. על שליחות זו עיין: א' יערי, שלוחי ארץ ישראל, ירושלים תשי"א, עמ' 465-565. מהאגרת: ... אחינו... אשר בעיר תהלה... אותותינו אלה... יבואו להודיע כמה צרות תכופות אשר עברו על ראשינו... בפרט השתא הכא מחמת המלחמה הידועה [של נאפוליאון] עם ישמעאל. מיום שנלקחה מצרים... שהעלילו עלילה עלינו באמרם שיש עם החיל יב אלף חלוצי צבא... והמה בני ברית אחינו בית ישראל... מתמוז התקנ"ח עד היום הזה שנה תמימה... עומדים עלינו לכלותינו... אשר על כן נתוועדנו יחד וחילינו פני ... ר' רפאל אברהם לב אריה נר"ו נין ונכד להרב [ר' יעקב אריה] ... בעל הנס ... כדי שלעת זקנתו הלוך ילך בשליחות מצוה מעה"ק ירוש'... שאם לא נשלם חובו' הגוים בודאי מעומדים אנו להריגת נפשות... ועל כן זאת הפעם ... מבקשים אנו... שירחמו עלינו ויתנו לנו גם מן הקופה של פדיון שבויים ... החו' ...משנת התקנ"ט. Appeal for charity sent by the Sephardic community of Jerusalem to Jewish communities in the Diaspora in the hands of Rabbi Raphael Abraham Lev Aryeh in the aftermath of Napoleon's campaign in Egypt. Signed in 5559 (1799) by Rabbis Yom Tov b. Israel Jacob Algazi, Joseph Meyuhas, Isaac Covo, Judah Burla, Mordecai ha-Levi, Abraham Azulai, and Moses Aaron ha-Levi. Yaari records two copies of this broadside printed in Hebrew, addressed to the Italian Jewish communities of Alessandria and Sabbioneta. The present copy is printed in Hebrew and Ladino and a blank space appears where the name of the community to be addressed was to be inserted.
