Piyut Interpretation

  • •         וְהָיוּ כְּאִלְּמוּת אֲפֵלָה - המילים האובדות עוברות מעין שינוי ונדמות לאלמות (אבדן והיעדר קול) אפלה, חשוכה ונעדרת אור. אילמות אפלה הוא ביטוי שירי שנקרא סינסתזיה, ערבוב חושים. האילמות נחווית בחוש הקול והחושך בחוש הראייה. אי הידיעה של מילות התפילה ואי היכולת לומר אותן הופכות בלשון המשורר לחוויה כל-חושית שמאופיינת בהיעדר.

    •         אַךְ עֲדַיִן רוֹאוֹת עֵינַי - למרות היעדר המלים ועל אף האילמות האפלה, עיניו של המשורר עודן רגישות ורואות. הדברים שאליהם הוא שם את לבו עומדים בניגוד לחושך של אבדן המלים - "זהר עיני ילדים", "כוכב אין דומה לו בזהר". תשומת הלב הזו, העיניים הרואות הללו, הן מקור התפילה שבהמשך השיר.

    •        וְאִמָּהוֹת דְּאוּגוֹת-פָּנִים / נוֹהֲגוֹת אֶל הָאוֹר יַלְדֵיהֶן הַקְּטַנִּים. - האמהות המודאגות מביאות את ילדיהן אל האור. המילה "נוהגות" מזכירה במצלולה את האור ששורה בבית הזה (נוהגות-נוגהות).

    •         שִׁמְעוּ שִׂמְחָתָם - אל חוש הראיה הרגיש של המשורר מצטרף בבית זה חוש השמיעה המכוון אל שמחתם של הילדים.
