רומנסה זו, המספרת על המלך דוד הסובלת ייסורים בצפותו לחדשות אודות בנו אבשלום, מבוססת על הסיפור המקראי (שמואל ב' י"ט א-ה). שליח מביא לדוד מכתב חתום בשבע חותמות, ובו הבשורה על מות אבשלום. הוא מכריז על אבל, וקורא תחילה לאשתו, אמו של אבשלום (בגרסאות אחרות הוא קורא גם לאשת אבשלום ולילדיו), ולמשרתיו של אבשלום. כולם מצווים ללבוש שחורים ולהתאבל על מותו. הגרסה הראשונה היא רק פרגמנט של הרומנסה. |
