TOUMBIS TEL. 5233.639;Production period - late 20th century;Front Period - late 20th century;Category - Synagogues;Description - The horizontal postcard depicts a colored photograph of the Kahal Kadosh Shalom Synagogue (meaning Synagogue of the Holy Congregation of Peace). This Sephardic Synagogue was built in the Juderia (Jewish quarter) of Rhodes in the 12th century, was destroyed and reconstructed in 1577; it is the oldest Synagogue in Greece. The photograph depicts the synagogue interior which follows the traditional Sephardic style of having the Tevah (a desk from which the person reading aloud from the Torah stands during the Torah reading service) in the center of the sanctuary, facing East toward Jerusalem. In this case, the Tevah is made of wood and it is an elevated place. On each sides there are some chairs and benches intended for the audience. On the background appears an unusual feature of the temple: there are two similar Hekhal
