Text on the back -Post Card This space is for address only This space may be used for correspondence Printed in Germany;Production period - Before 1908;Front Period - 1876;Category - Synagogues;Description - A vertical postcard depicting the Sinai Temple in Indiana & 21th Street in Chicago, Illinois. The congregation is a Reform congregation established in 1861, who purchased an episcopal curch and converted it into their first temple. In 1863 a new structure was built in Third Avenue but was destroyed by fire in 1871. For five years they used rented facilities until they dedicated a new temple, the one depicted on this postcard, on Indiana and 21th Street. This is their 3rd temple and it was remodeled in 1892. In 1912 the congregation moved to their 4th temple, in 46th & and Grand Boulevard (now Martin Luther King Jr. Drive). This building was sold in 1944 but is still in use as a Missionary Baptist Facillity. Due to postwar building restrictions and financial considerations Sinai had to worship temporarily in other places until 1950 when the congregation built a facility at 54th Str;Back Description - A devided back.
