Communications The PCK Series Post Card Address 127482;Production period - Before 21/2/1908;founders, architects, painters etc. - Watkins and Hutchinsson;Front Period - 1907;Category - Synagogues;Description - A horizontal postcard depicting the temple in Mobile Alabama. The architectural style is eclectic, combining narrow and round arches, stained glass windows and a rose window. The Jewish congregation in Mobile is a Reform congregation and is the oldest one in Alabama. It was organized under the name 'Sha'arai Shomayim Umaskil el Dol'. The first temple was built in 1846. The temple on this card is their third one and was called 'The Government Street Temple' (based on the temple's address). It served between the years 1907-1952 and then the building was deconsecrated. It was bought by an auto dealership and was totally demolished a few years later (1956). The congregation moved to a new location on Springhill Avenue. [E.B];Back Description - A divided back. In the upper right corner is a 1 cent stamped stamp. In the upper center is a postmark. The publisher's name appears vertically on the left side. To the left of the publisher's name apears a number.
