One of the most beautiful religious defices in America, built of dressed stone, at a cost of nearly 2 milion dollars. C.T. AMERICAN ART COLORED 220 PUBLISHED BY MAX RIGOT SELLING COMPANY CO., CHICAGO Chicago World's Fair 1933.;Production period - 1933;Front Period - 1930;Category - Jewish sites;Description - A horizontal postcard depicting Temple Sholom, Chicago, Illinois. The congregation founded under Orthodox principles in 1867 quickly became Reform congregation. Their first synagogue was built on the corner of Wells & Superior Streets between 1867 and 1870 and was destroyed by fire in 1871. After 12 years of temporary locations they dedicated their second synagogue in 1883 at Rush Street and Walton Place. After 12 more years the congregation outgrew this facility and moved to Goethe Street and La Salle Avenue. In 1911 they dedicated their new synagogue at Grace Street and Pine Grove Avenue. In 1930 they dedicated their current synagogue. The building underwent a major phase of reconstruction beginning in 1977. A number appears on the left upper side. The name of the publisher and the serial number are printed vertically on the left handside.
