The first part of the book provides an account of the author's stay in Riga and his contacts with "refuseniks". The second part traces the history of the Jews in the USSR. Discusses the "Jewish question" under Stalin and afterwards, quoting from documents, speeches, etc. Analyzes a typical case of antisemitism in relation to the trial of Y.Y. Berenstein, and the anti-Jewish stereotypes used by the press in describing the case. Pp. 250-260, "Publications sovietiques antijuives, " describe anti-Zionist publications, including cartoons.
