Surveys political antisemitism in Russia in 1991-96 as manifested in organizations and parties, as well as in the press. Non-state political antisemitism of the Yeltsin era was chiefly spread by fascist groups, by Russian nationalists, and by National Bolshevist organizations. Antisemitic views were also expressed by parliamentary parties, such as Zhirinovskii's Liberal Democrats and Zyuganov's Communist Party of Russia. The Russian state, including the state prosecution authorities, does not take measures against the spread of extreme-right attitudes and antisemitism. Various circles within the Russian Orthodox Church are allied with either extreme-right or National Bolshevist elements and wish to incite antisemitism. The Church leadership does not condemn the antisemitic activities of some of its elements.
