- רב סמל בכיר משמר הגבול יוראי אליהו כהן בן אסתר ויעקב נפל ביוםכ"ב בתשרי תשפ"ד 7.10.2023 בן 29 בנופלו. נולד ביום ז' באב תשנ"ד (14.7.1994) בחצור הגלילית. ילד שני במשפחה, אח לבר ונועה. בעלה של אדר ואביה של ניב הקטנה. יוראי שירת את המדינה למעלה מעשור, תחילה כלוחם וכחובש קרבי בסיירת הצנחנים, שם השתתף בלחימה במהלך "צוק איתן" (קיץ 2014). לאחר מכן התגייס לשב"כ ובהמשך, בינואר 2020 התגייס ליחידת הימ"מ במשטרה, שם תפקד כפורץ, מפקד חוליה, חובש ולוחם בצוות חוד. בשבת כ"ב בתשרי, שמחת תורה תשפ"ד, 7 באוקטובר 2023, בשעה שש וחצי בבוקר, הוקפץ יוראי מביתו ביהוד יחד עם חבריו ליחידה. הוא נפרד מאשתו אדר ומבתו התינוקת ניב ויצא עם צוותו דרומה לשדרות. היכרותו עם האזור, בו התגורר בעבר, אפשרה לו לנווט את הכוח בבטחה. בעת כניסתם לצומת שער הנגב, נתקל הכוח במארב מחבלים. יוראי וחבריו ניהלו קרב עיקש, במהלכו נהרגו המחבלים. בקרב נפלו יוראי ורב-פקד אברהם הנקין. רב-סמל מתקדם יוראי אליהו כהן נפל בקרב ביום כ"ב בתשרי תשפ"ד (7.10.2023). בן עשרים ותשע בנופלו. הובא למנוחות בבית העלמין הצבאי בנהריה. הותיר אישה, בת, הורים, אח ואחות. לאחר נפילתו הועלה לדרגת רב-סמל בכיר. - Sgt. Maj. Yorai Eliyahu Cohen, 29, a police officer in the Yamam counter-terrorism unit, from Nahariya, was killed on October 7 battling Hamas at the Sha’ar Hanegev Junction. He was called up to the front lines the morning of the Hamas attack, and was heading toward Sderot with other members of his team, according to his family. On the way there, they were directed to the Sha’ar Hanegev Junction, just outside the city, where they engaged in heavy gunfire with cells of Hamas terrorists. Yorai and fellow Yamam officer Supt. Avraham Hankin were shot dead in the firefight. Yorai was buried on October 9 in Nahariya. He is survived by his wife, Adar, their daughter, Niv, 1, his parents, Yaacov and Esti, and his siblings Bar and Noa. Born in Hatzor Haglilit in the Galilee, Yorai was raised in Nahariya and in nearby Kibbutz Sa’ar. ( (Times of Israel website, viewed 14 August 2026) )
