- Sánchez Pérez, José Augusto. El Culto Mariano en España, 1943(Her history begins in 1469. She appeared to Rodrigo Balaztegui near Mount Alona which is 11 kilometers from the Basque town of Oñate. Upon seeing the virgin, Rodrigo says: "Aránzazu", which in Basque means "You in the thorny thicket"; she was made patron saint of Guipúzcoa in 1926; plate 94 gives her name in Spanish as "Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu patrona de Guipúzcoa" and her Basque name as "Arantzazuko Ama Birjiña Gipuzkoako zaindaria")
