Convinced that the piece would be a success, the publisher Auguste Durand urged the composer to make an orchestral version as well. Work on this version seems to have progressed very rapidly, for on 23 February 1888 Saint-Saëns wrote to Durand: "I have just brought the Havanaise to the post...." The orchestral parts were published in April 1888, the score one month later)
