- obituary for Max Brewer (born in Blackfalds, Alberta, May 7, 1924. Died at his home in Anchorage on September 21, 2012. In 1956 he became director of the Naval Arctic Research Laboratory. A professor of ice physics at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. In 1971 Alaska's governor appointed him commissioner of Environmental Conservation. Later he rejoined the U.S. Geological Survey; retired in 1994 from the Survey as a geologist and geophysicist. ( (Legacy website, February 15, 2021:) )
