Boulenger (1885) included Ctenoblepharys adspersa in his Catalogue of lizards in the British Museum, changing the spelling to Ctenoblepharis adspersus, an emendation followed by most subsequent authors until it was found to be unjustified by Frost and Etheridge (1989))
