Brixen (German: [ˈbrɪksn̩] ), also known as Bressanone (Italian: [bressaˈnoːne]), is a town and commune in the province of South Tyrol, northern Italy, located about 40 kilometres (25 mi) north of Bolzano. Brixen is the third-largest city and oldest town in the province, with a population of nearly twenty-three thousand. It is located at the confluence of the Eisack and Rienz rivers, and today it is the capital of the Eisack district community.
